Getting their start in 2010, Emerson Fry Bread has quickly become a staple of any food truck event.  Mobile Munchies met with Roxanne Emerson at November’s First Friday event in Downtown Phoenix to talk fry bread

“We go into depth with our meats and toppings,” said Emerson describing their fry bread and how it is different than competitors.  For example, “The D$” is a fry bread topped with chicken pieces in a green chili sauce, beans, cheese, greens, pico de gallo and crema fresca.

With funky names like the D$, Jazzy and Muzzy, Emerson Fry Bread attracts event goers with their quirk as well as their tantalizing menu.  However, all the menu items have special sentiment and are named after members of the Emerson Family.

“The Muzzy” named after Emerson’s son, is carne asada marinated with Four Peaks Kilt Lifter, beans, cheese, greens, pico de gallo, wrapped in a flour tortilla with a side of salsa.  Emerson joked that he is her little “fry bread expert.”  Photos of Emerson family members can be seen on the back of the food truck.

Emerson’s husband and father began Emerson Fry Bread in 1965 and closed in the 90s, but she and her family re-opened the business in 2010 and have been going strong for the last three years.

The next time you see Emerson Fry Bread make sure you stop by and grab yourself a delicious, unique, Mexican infused fry bread.

Just so you know, it is hard to miss the Emerson’s food truck with its custom blue wrap that explodes with color and shapes, as well as the delicious smells that pour out into the atmosphere.
